The Rain Has Arrived…
Well, the rain FINALLY has arrived. After receiving more snow than rain in the earlier storms - due to ultra cold weather - just prior to Winter Solstice… we really didn’t see the Trinity River bump in flows a whole lot. However, we are now finally getting some heavy precip in the form of rain. And when it rains on top of snow? Look out!! The rivers are a rising…
The Trinity River is currently going big as well as every other steelhead river in Nor California right now. The river needed it. Hit the reset button folks.
Steelhead are going to be happy. Salmon are going to be happy. Reservoirs are going to begin filling (I heard that Shasta Lake went up 12’ the other day). Anglers who appreciate how important rain & snow are during the winter months… are going to rejoice.
California is getting some much needed rain along with much needed snow in the higher mountains. The snowpack is equally if not more important as that is how many of California’s reservoirs were designed… to capture runoff after winter snowpack melts. Trinity Lake is dependent on snowpack runoff wherein Shasta Lake is more designed around lower elevation rain storm runoff. Of course, all precipitation is GOOD - rain or snow - we will take whatever Ma Nature decides to throw our way.
When the dust settles… I will be on the steelhead hunt. With or without you. Get out your calendars and set some dates!
