August 1st Re-Opener Sundial Bridge, Lower Sac
This week should be on every CA angler’s calendar. The August 1st re-opener of the Top Section of the Lower Sacramento River right here in Redding CA. It was pretty epic despite the crowds on the 1st and 2nd (I’ve rarely seen this many drift boats on any section of river but maybe the Beaverhead River in MT in July, LOL).
It was crowded for good reason… the wild trout fishing was INSANE.
I still have some open dates for drift boat fishing the Lower Sac in the coming weeks.
August 25, 26, 29, 30, 31
Sept 2, 6, 23,
The wild trout have definitely wised up a bit in the Sundial Section so bring your A-Game. But this doesn’t change the fact that we now have a lot of water open with more options to fish here in the Redding area. I would go on to say that all the floats on the river are fishing well and there are advantages of each reach and beat right now - from Redding to Red Bluff.
There is a massive run of fall Chinook salmon expected into the Sacramento River this summer/fall. Unless you have been under a rock you have heard about the stellar conditions the off-shore charter boats have experienced so far this salmon season. It’s been pretty epic off the California coast! It will be interesting to see what the steelhead numbers look like? We will typically see early steelhead showing up in both the Trinity River and Lower Sac by mid August and September. We shall begin to find out in the coming weeks… stay tuned.
