Get Ready for Fishing…

After nearly an entire month of cancelled and re-scheduled trips I am getting excited about the rivers dropping and fishable flows returning on our local rivers.

Get ready to FISH!!!!

My available dates are:

February 24, 25

March 2, 4, 5, 8-10, 19-24

February has been brutal for fishing guide’s and anglers in N California. I’ll spare you the anxiety and stress that big water years can produce among winter stlhd and trout guides.

I know full well the benefits that these exceedingly wet years provide to our reservoirs, underground aquifers, flood plains and overall health of the fisheries and riparian zones. Trust me I’m rejoicing (on the inside). But being out of work for the better half of the new year has it’s stressors.

So… I am choosing to focus on the positive - and as I get older - I am really trying too NOT

focus on the the things that I cannot control.

With that said, and I’ll say it again for people in the back… Get Ready to Fish.

**Update… Flows on the Lower Sac next Thursday 2/20/25 are supposed to drop to 20k. Flows are dropping to 10k on Tuesday 2/25 and down to 7,500k the next day. It is go time finally. Let’s go fishing.

Lower Sac is typically great in Feb, March, April and May… spring time bugs, spring time weather.

I am waiting on the Trinity River flows to come down a bit more. Currently the flows are 3500cfs out of Lewiston Dam and I don’t see it dropping just yet. The Lake is still too full at over 2 mil. acre feet.

The good news is that the inflow to the lake has finally dropped below the lake’s outflow causing the lake level to finally begin to come down. With a stable, mostly dry 10-day forecast we should see appreciable progress.

Shasta Lake is nearing full pool and will be full again this spring - for a 3rd time in 3 years years. The lake is beautiful when it’s full and the spring green season is magical.

When the going gets tough, the tough go bass fishing. And that is what I have been doing on my days of lately… and I have had more than a few days off.

If you have never given bass fishing on the fly rod a try… this is the season to come fishing with me. I could go on and on about how special this place is and this spring will be another fantastic season. March - May is the time, let’s goo!!!
